DEK'S TAE KWON DO SCHOOL, INC.
The Universal Tae Kwon Do Association sponsors a variety of seminars annually. These seminars are designed to enhance training provided at the school level, prepare students for promotion to Black Belt and provide Black Belt members the skills to become instructors. Upon successful completion of each seminar, members will receive embossed certificates suitable for framing.
Board Breaking Seminar
This seminar is offered a minimum of six times each year; three times for peewee members and three times for junior and adult members. This seminar focuses on various board breaking techniques. Included are the "power" breaks required for Black Belt promotions and the "flashy" demonstration techniques. Students will learn how to place boards and set holders for the various techniques and gain an understanding of the physics involved in board breaking. This seminar is invaluable for students seeking promotion to Black Belt.
This seminar is offered twice annually; once for peewee members and once for junior and adult members. This seminar is loaded with instruction on technical skills pertaining to the performance of hyungs, free-sparring and self-defense. Members are educated on the nuances of performance for entertainment purposes (hyungs), sport purposes (free-sparring) and practical purposes (self-defense). This seminar is designed to take the member to the next level in performance.
Team Leader/Assistant Instructor Certification Seminar
This seminar is offered to all students ages eight and older 6th Kup Green Belt and higher. This seminar is required for promotion to 2nd Dan Black Belt. Participants are introduced to the concepts of teaching martial arts and are afforded the opportunities to "practice" teaching under the watchful eye of the Master. Upon completion of this seminar and fulfillment of its requirements, members will be certified to participate in classes as Team Leaders and Assistant Instructors. Attendance satisfies six CE credits.
Referee and Judges Certification Seminar
This seminar is also only offered to Black Belt junior and adult members only. This seminar is required for promotion to 2nd Dan Black Belt. Participants are instructed in the rules and regulations of free-sparring as applied to tournaments. Upon completion of the seminar, members will be able to set up a standard tournament ring and show proficiency as ringside judges and referees. Attendance satisfies two CE credits.
Board Breaking Instructor Certification Seminar
This seminar is offered to Black Belt junior and adult members and is required for promotion to 3rd Dan Black Belt. This seminar is intended to give Black Belt instructors and assistant instructors the skills necessary to provide instruction in board breaking. Participants will learn how physics, board selection, board holders, board set-up and a person's physical and mental attributes affect board breaking success. Upon completion of the seminar, members will be able to guide students of all ages and physical ability to success in board breaking. Attendance satisfies four CE credits.
Self-Defense Instructor Certification Seminar
This seminar is offered to Black Belt junior and adult members only and is required for promotion to 3rd Dan Black Belt. Teaching self-defense techniques requires a different approach than regular classroom instruction. This seminar is a comprehensive course in self-defense. Upon completion of this seminar, participants will be able to effectively demonstrate self-defense techniques in a variety of situations and be able to instruct the general public as well. Attendance satisfies four CE credits.
