Students must test, or earn promotions, to progress from the rank of 10th Kup No Belt to 1st Dan Black Belt and above.  Testing is an instrumental part of a martial artist’s development.  To do so a student must establish proficiency at his or her current rank by successfully completing specific requirements at a certified testing.  In addition, instructors must vouch for the student’s behavior inside and outside of class.

The Universal Tae Kwon Do Organization has established promotional standards that serve to set its members above the rest.  All promotional testings are conducted according to these standards to ensure uniformity among the member schools and provide credibility to the belt ranks.  The following are the current standards accepted by the Universal Tae Kwon Do Organization.  These are minimum standards and individual schools may adopt more stringent testing requirements.  Upon successful promotion, members receive an embossed certificate from the Universal Tae Kwon Do Organization acknowledging their accomplishment.
